Build Out Timeline Items
Add items with durations, buffers, travel, and tracks — and shape the day on the visual view.
Timeline items are the blocks the cascade engine sequences into a day. Each carries its own duration, buffers, travel time, category, and track. Add and edit them in the List view, then shape the day directly on the Timeline view by dragging.
Steps
- Open an event day in the editor
(/dashboard/run-of-show/[id]). - In the List view, click "Add item" and set:
- Duration — how long the item runs.
- Buffers — padding before/after to absorb slippage.
- Travel — time to move between locations; the engine inserts it into the cascade.
- Category — what kind of moment it is (getting ready, ceremony, photos, reception).
- Track — a parallel lane, so concurrent activity (e.g. two vendors) reads cleanly.
- Switch to the Timeline view to shape the day visually:
- Drag to reorder — move an item to a new position; downstream times reflow.
- Drag an edge to resize — lengthen or shorten a duration in place.
- Drag onto a Key-Moment line to pin — anchor an item to a Key Moment so it tracks that beat.
- Drag a Key-Moment line — retime the moment and reflow the whole day around it.
- Use "Shift day" to bump the entire day forward or back by N minutes at once.
- Run "Audit" to have Coach review the finished day for conflicts, tight gaps, and portraits outside golden hour, then accept its proposed fixes.
- Attach floor plans, shot lists, or notes to any item (or to the day) so they travel with the schedule.
